Butterfly BLITZ

FRIDAY, OCT. 4, 2024

 

King Ranch Winged Wonder Tour – 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.  Call (361) 592-8055 to book or

 

  • 81 species of butterflies have been recorded on the King Ranch Visitor Center grounds alone! We’ll focus primary on butterflies but will enjoy all the Winged Wonders of King Ranch: moth, dragonfly, damselfly and bird species.
  • This tour explores the visitor center area and some more remote areas of the ranch
  • Tours offered in conjunction with the Butterfly Blitz Festival in the City of Kingsville each October
  • Binoculars and camera recommended.
  • Not recommended for children under the age of 10.

 

Pollinators of the Night Exhibit at L.E. Ramey Golf Course – 8 p.m. – FREE!!
  • Experience pollinators of the night. Experts will set up a blacklight sheet that attracts a variety of arthropods such as beetles and moths. Scientists will then observe and collect insects to document in the community and provide quality data for research!
All Day Activities
  • Participate in the Kingsville Butterfly Bio-Blitz! Record all butterfly and moth observations for Kleberg County in the Kingsville Butterfly Bio-Blitz 2023 iNaturalist. Top three participants with the most species observed will win prizes.
  • Take a self-guided Monarch City USA Butterfly Buds Gardens Tour. Gardens are located at the Kingsville Visitors Center, the King Ranch Visitor Center, the Train Depot, the Kingsville Xeriscape Garden beside the Maggie Salinas Pavilion and at Dick Kleberg Park.

SATURDAY, OCT. 5, 2024

5k Monarch Run – 8 a.m. Register on-line
  • Take part in our 5k race at Dick Kleberg Park.  Registrants will receive a FREE t-shirt and award medals will be distributed for all age categories.
Butterfly Blitz Festival – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. – FREE
