South Texas Creative Camp

The South Texas Creative Camp offered at Texas A&M University-Kingsville provides young South Texans with the tools and training to develop their unique talents and share their rich cultural heritage with the world. The stories of our communities deserve to be told through the narrative and expressive arts. The camp offers the following workshops by pre-eminent university faculty:

• creative writing
• artwork
• digital project design
• publication
• community awareness

The camp is focused on enabling participants to produce creative artifacts through which they can showcase their community and culture. In the process, participants will develop the following skills, among others:

• critical thinking
• innovation
• digital proficiency
• teamwork
• communication (including public speaking)

The camp will begin on July 6 and take place over two weeks from 9 am to 4 pm Monday through Thursday. On Friday, July 17, friends and family will be invited to a showcase event on campus from 4-8 pm to celebrate the creative achievements of the participants.

The camp will include a visit to the historic King Ranch (famous camphouse lunch included), a tour of Kingsville, and two lunch and learn sessions.

Camp Pricing: Regular Rate (all lunches included) – $350
        Optional Rate (without 5 optional lunches) – $300

Participants can choose the camp rate that includes lunches for the other 5 days or the rate without those 5 optional meals. Participants selecting the camp rate without optional meals must bring their own lunch on those 5 days (Jul. 6-7 & Jul. 14-16).
